Autodesk Smoke 2013 - Everything is Changing
LAS VEGAS--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) introduces Autodesk Smoke 2013 video editing software, a completely redesigned and repackaged version of the all-in-one video editing and visual effects tool for the Mac. Smoke 2013, born out of two decades of visual effects leadership, features a unified creative workflow that brings powerful node-based compositing right in the timeline at a new price of $6,500NZD. “Autodesk creates tools for pros and listens to pros to create their tools.” “Autodesk combined over 20 years of visual effects leadership and customer feedback to create video editing and effects software that serves the current and evolving marketplace for high-quality video content. Early feedback has been gratifyingly enthusiastic,” said Marc Petit, senior vice president, Autodesk Media & Entertainment. The industry is already abuzz with excitement for this upcoming version of Smoke. Matt Silverman, creative director at San Francisco-based Bonfire Studios said, “Autodesk creates tools for pros and listens to pros to create their tools.” A recent Autodesk-commissioned survey of film and video production companies found that editors and studio owners are grappling with limited budgets, file management complexity and tight project timelines. Of the respondents, 42 percent cited dealing with different file formats as one of the biggest challenges with current editing and finishing tools. In the survey, 82 percent called out Smoke software’s support for HD and higher resolution formats and 60 percent its all-in-one package as the most valuable features to help combat production complexity and streamline their post-production workflow. The research illuminated a thriving professional video market with more Hollywood blockbuster-quality content required for web, new mobile platforms, interactive advertising and traditional broadcast. The professional video market is eagerly awaiting an improved post-production workflow and demanding pipeline efficiency. The new all-in-one Smoke, with its unified editing and effects workflow, can be that tool. Smoke can help editors simplify their workflow, centrally manage their media, work interactively with high-res media throughout their projects and deliver high-end content. “Time is not a renewable resource. A multi-application workflow with all the round-tripping is time that’s taken away from being creative. With Smoke, you have all those tools in one place. You cannot underestimate the power of what we call ‘the super app.’ The idea of non-linear editing-centric visual effects is what we’ve all been crying out for for a decade. This version of Smoke is disruptive. This version of Smoke is going to be a change agent,” said Chief Technology Officer and Industry Evangelist, Evan Schechtman of NY-based transmedia company @radical media. Hollywood's SSI Advanced Post Services Installs Blackmagic Teranex VC100 Video Processors
Fremont, USA - February 23, 2012 - Blackmagic Design today announced that SSI Advanced Post Services, one of Hollywood’s premiere post production facilities, has installed Teranex VC100 video processors as part of a massive project converting various classic television shows, such as “I Love Lucy” and “Gilligan’s Island,” to file based formats for inflight airline entertainment systems. Installed at their Sunset Boulevard facility, SSI will use the Teranex VC100 to complete an extensive set of format and frame rate conversions on a number of television shows, transforming media of various ages and quality into the uniform format and resolutions needed for inflight television. Beyond this project, the Teranex VC100 will also be used to handle SSI’s ongoing theatrical and television trailer work, preparing trailers for use across the globe. “Some of our biggest customers ask for Teranex by name because it ensures high quality, and we have been Teranex customers for a number of years. So it was an obvious choice to upgrade to the complete VC100 when it became available,” said SSI’s head of engineering, Gary Fradken. “With our clients, it is either high quality or it is unacceptable. Teranex not only gives that level of quality, but it is also reliable and easy to use. It just makes great pictures.” “With the airline project, on some days we received boxes full of tapes from the 1960s, while on other days we got media with whole seasons of a show shot 30 years ago in England in PAL. Every single piece of content needs to be turned into uniform high quality file based media with the same aspect ratio and format,” continued Fradken. “The VC100 has been invaluable and handles any format thrown at it. It has particularly shined when working with media including interlaced content, which no other video processor can handle like the VC100.” SSI upgraded to the Teranex VC100 from their existing Teranex VC300. The system joins SSI’s existing network of Blackmagic Design products, including three DaVinci Resolve color correction systems, including Resolve Control Surfaces, and 18 Blackmagic Design DeckLink HD Extreme 3D capture and playback cards. These products are used to complete color correction and post production for SSI’s work on theatrical trailers, such as the trailers for the new films “Journey 2” and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” About Teranex Blackmagic Design’s Teranex VC100 award winning broadcast video processor provides format and frame rate conversion, video noise reduction, film restoration and pre/post compression conditioning. The Teranex SIMD array processing technology delivers real time processing with re programmable products, providing a future proof solution for the broadcast industry's changing needs. The Teranex VC100 defines excellence in video conversion and is now helping to lead the broadcasting revolution from 2D to 3D. IBC 2011, Amsterdam, The Netherlands - September 9, 2011 - Blackmagic Design today announced DaVinci Resolve for Microsoft Windows™ which will allow customers to use a wide range of hardware for building color correction systems with the advantage of a wider selection of GPU processing options with support for up to a massive 16 GPU’s per system. DaVinci Resolve for Windows™ will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design IBC 2011 booth at #7.H20. DaVinci Resolve for Microsoft Windows™ will be accompanied by the Mac OS X version, so when a customer purchases DaVinci Resolve, they can choose which operating system they want to use, and then install either one. This will ensure current DaVinci Resolve customers are kept up to date with the latest features, and not disadvantaged for purchasing early. DaVinci Resolve, will be available in three models. DaVinci Resolve Lite, the current free version, will be available in both Windows and Mac OS X downloads. DaVinci Resolve Software for €695 will be available for both Mac OS X and Windows and customers will get both operating systems for the one purchase. DaVinci Resolve with the full colorist designed control surface will be available with Mac OS X, Windows and Linux software in the box, allowing the customer to choose any of three operating systems to build their color correction system. “We think this is very exciting because it just makes things even more flexible for DaVinci Resolve customers, and makes it even easier to integrate Resolve color correction into facility workflows when using a wider range of editing and effects software,” said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. “I am also happy that customers who already have Resolve will get this software free of charge, and it’s a deeply felt thank you to them from everyone here at Blackmagic Design. We really appreciate their support, and hope this update shows how much we appreciate it!” Availability and Price DaVinci Resolve for Microsoft Windows™ will be released Q1 of 2012 and will be included with all current DaVinci Resolve models so customers will get the choice of both Mac OS X or Windows support when installing the software.
